CULTURE: One of the common traits of NPA’s workforce is their commitment to excellence and quality in the product they make. This commitment is also connected to great pride in the finished product, so much so that the many staff will take the opportunity to purchase these notes from the central bank customer and then have them framed.
In a coordinated program of work, in the last 12 months more than 200 NPA staff purchased mint condition Philippines polymer 1000, 500, 100, and 50-Piso banknotes, with around 50% of that group having had them framed. Last month, the same offer was made to NPA staff for the Bank of Papua New Guinea’s Commemorative 50 Kina banknote and Commemorative 50 Toea coin, which were issued on 29 August 2025.
Giving staff the chance to purchase banknotes that NPA has manufactured has been popular in serving as a memento of one's working life at NPA. The framing of the notes, which is also paid for by the staff member, includes a special one-off plaque that commemorates the series with the signatures of CEO Malcolm McDowell and the central bank’s Deputy Governor in charge of currency supply.
Honouring The Present: Many NPA staff members, including Keith Irvine, NPA’s Vision System and Electrical Tradesperson, take tremendous pride in the work of the company, with the legacy of their work able to be shared with family and friends now and in the future.
