After the addition of dedicated staff with the expertise to drive NPA’s sustainability performance to new heights, the organisation is expecting to achieve a significant improvement in the percentage of waste is diverting from landfill.

The Philippines New Polymer Banknote family which includes the 500, 100 and 50 Piso took out the highly coveted International Association of Currency Affairs (IACA) Best New Banknote Series of the Year award at this year’s Currency Conference staged in Bangkok, Thailand.

With Papua New Guinea achieving 50 Years of Independence on 16 September 2025, Bank of Papua New Guinea (BPNG) will issue commemorative currency to mark the occasion - a 50 Kina banknote and 50 Toea coin. NPA CEO Malcolm McDowell attended the launch event in late April in which BPNG revealed the new designs in the presence of the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister.

Earlier this week, the International Association of Currency Affairs (IACA) held a webinar in which our CEO, Malcolm McDowell was one of four key industry players who were invited to present their perspective on the future of high security printing. 

“For the next three years, the Board has requested that our Sustainability Strategy focus on climate action and enhancing sustainability across the value chain,” says Hiru Jayatunge, NPA’s Sustainability Manager.  “This has been prioritised as part of NPA's broader sustainability efforts which include an ESG framework.”

March 2025 has brought some hard-earned but very welcome news: NPA’s Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate – one of the main safety indicators used by the business – has returned to zero.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr spoke in glowing terms about The Philippines’ new polymer banknote series and the work of Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas in delivering banknotes that are “are simply a step forward: stronger, more durable, better suited to today’s demands”.
