In her speech, BPNG Governor Elizabeth Genia acknowledged BPNG’s long-standing partnership with NPA, who collaborated closely on the redesign.

“From the outset, NPA understood the significance of this task. Together, we have produced a banknote that reflects the qualities that defined Sir Julius’s public life - care, discipline, and respect,” Governor Genia said.

NPA CEO Malcolm McDowell also spoke at the event, emphasising the cultural and historical significance of banknotes in a digital age.

“Banknotes have long been used as a unique and enduring way for countries to tell a story, celebrate its culture and those individuals who, through their personal deeds, helped shaped their nation – and that is what this new 100 Kina note does,” McDowell said.

“I congratulate Governor Genia and her team at the Bank of PNG for their courage and insights in creating such an enduring artefact to celebrate the life and contribution to the PNG of today of Sir Julius Chan,” he concluded.
