SUSTAINABILITY: The Reserve Bank of Australia has elected to move the entire Craigieburn high security site to 100% green power, which started on Tuesday 1 July. This coincided with the completion and commissioning of a 1.37 MW solar panel installation delivered by 2,562 panels running at 83% efficiency. This capacity will reduce the site’s emissions by 448 tCO2e.
“This project really advances NPA’s decarbonisation plan as we were expecting a staggered increase of green power across the next five years so it’s great news,” says Hiru Jayatunge, NPA’s Sustainability Manager.
“To have this solar installation up and running is a real credit to the RBA Workplace Team and its Project Lead, Dulce Nava. For NPA, we have 1,550 panels on the roof of our building which on average will account for 10% of our energy consumption. In total, the NPA Building has a total installed capacity of 900kW with an annual generation of 1060 MWh
Total installed capacity refers to the total power output of the panels. A standard residential solar panel’s total installed capacity is around 4–10 kW.
In addition to NPA, the Staff Centre and the Services Building have 288 and 198 solar panels respectively on their rooves with a total installed capacity of 232 kW. The RBA’s National Banknote Site – also known as Site 2 – has 438 panels on its roof with a total capacity of 240 kW.
Resource-full: Craigieburn’s 1370 kW (or 1.37 MW) solar installation is great for the environment and a huge step forward for NPA as it marches toward its target of being Net Zero for Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030.
