WELLBEING: Electrical Tradesperson Luke Winter took his mental health message to the top of the organisation as he spoke to our CEO Malcolm McDowell at length in regard to the importance of mental health and expressed his appreciation for the support the business was providing to staff in this area. Malcolm congratulated Luke and was highly complimentary of his efforts.
Winter Is Coming: Luke Winter (centre) has been an inspiration to many across the business as he works his way through The Push-Up Challenge. In a morning session in the CEO’s office, Luke delivered another 25 push-ups with (L-R) Mohamed Taoumi, Darren Hussey, Malcolm McDowell and Robyn Ryan.

In keeping with his habit of doing push-ups in workplaces across the business as a way of starting discussions around mental health, Luke brought Darren Hussey and Mohamed Taoumi to Malcolm’s office, then had Malcolm and his Executive Assistant Robyn Ryan on the floor and pumping out as many push-ups as they could deliver.
It’s also important to note that there are four other NPA employees that are active in The Push-Up Challenge: Linden Chan (2774 push-ups so far), Michael Minehan (2704), Chris Yuen (2334), and Ross Rowley (340). Fundraising pages for all these individuals can be found via Luke’s page.
"In speaking to people across the business you realise just how important this topic is, and if staff are feeling pressure at work or home that's beginning to affect their sense of well-being, it is absolutely vital to discuss the issue with Access EAP, or a Well-Being Support Officer or a good friend, or an uncle or auntie, or a psychologist. The healthiest thing you can possibly do is to have discussions that help you get into a better frame of mind," says Luke.
Darren is Luke's manager and was so inspired by his team member's recent Town Hall appearance, that he decided to join him for the remaining 2214 push-ups that Luke has committed to delivering by the end of the month.
“I was looking at Luke get up in front of the audience and speaking about a serious issue, and I thought – yeah, I can do this too. It’s a great message and it’s definitely a physical challenge but I’m managing it,” says Darren.
Says Mohamed, "I'm really proud of Luke and what he is bringing to the business. He's also made me much more aware of the issue and importance of men's mental health and for that I'm really grateful."
